Blended Learning Course Design
8th grade U.S. History

I have been researching, writing and creating projects about blended learning for the entirety of my graduate school experience, and I have finally been tasked with creating a blended learning course for my classroom. It was a daunting task to know that all instructions and resources needed to be clear and easy to navigate because students would be working at their own pace for a majority of the unit.

The design process started with Fink's 3 Column table that outlines the learning goals, activities and assessments for the course. This is the guiding document throughout the planning and implementation phase as it helps focus every lesson and activity on the established learning goals. The second part of the design process was to create the modules with all the necessary resources and instructions. Finally, I created a usability test for some of my stakeholders to gain critical feedback on the course design. This provided invaluable information to improving the course before sharing it with all of my students.

Course Design

I have designed a 6 week course for the Reconstruction Unit in 8th grade history class. I have incorporated a competency based and outcome based education to best meet the learning needs of my students

The learning goals and outline are detailed in the Course Design page.

Implementation

I have created this 6 week Reconstruction course using google classroom. You can click on the link below to check out the actual class with all the resources and instructional videos for each lesson. I have also included a video introduction and overview of the entire course.

Usability Test

It is a crucial step in the design process to get feedback from stakeholders.

I have created and given a usability test to some of my stakeholders in order to receive critical feedback necessary to improve the design and delivery of my blended learning course.
