5304 Organizational Change

Great ideas do not become popular because of their content. Great products do not sell themselves, and people do not change their behavior even when they are shown hard evidence that it is good for them. Effective leaders recognize these truths and utilize research-backed strategies for how to influence behavioral change. In this course, I learned how to be a more effective leader and how to implement and execute wildly ambitious goals.  What's Your Why, Differentiated Leadership and Crucial Conversations all speak to how a leader needs to truly understand their purpose in order to connect and stay steadfast during tumultuous times. The Influencer Strategy and 4DX outline how to focus your organization on one important goal and execute a plan that will create lasting behavioral change in your organization.

My Innovation Plan is about creating a blended learning environment with a focus on authentic, project-based learning experiences. All of the work below will support my journey not only in implementing this innovation plan in my own classroom but throughout the school as well.

What's Your Why

Lead with your purpose

Too often, leaders get caught up in what their responsibilities are and how they are going to reach their goals, but leaders and organizations and leaders with outstanding and lasting success always start with their why. In this post, I discuss my purpose for teaching social studies and explain how I will try to reach that lofty goal.

Influencer Strategy

Influencing lasting behavioral change

A leader's success lies in the ability to influence behavioral change in their organization, yet changing someone's behavior is one of the most challenging obstacles that a leader can face. Using the strategies outlined in Influencer: The Science of Leading Change, I created a plan to influence other teachers into implementing authentic, project-based learning projects.

The 4 Disciplines of Execution

"Achieving your wildly important goals"

The 4 Disciplines of Execution (4DX) model create a clear process for how to execute your incredible, detailed dreams and plans. The 4DX strategy is built around the 4 disciplines of execution and explain how they fit within the 5 stages of change. I follow their simple guidelines that focus on lead measures and a compelling scoreboard to create an implementation strategy of my Innovation Plan.

Self-Differentiated Leadership

"Work on yourself first"

Friedman’s Theory of Differentiated Leadership and Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes are High, 2nd Edition provide specific strategies to build a skill set for becoming an effective leader and engaging in difficult, but necessary conversations. Both strategies encourage leaders to start with themselves by deeply understanding their goals, motivations and role within the organization.
