Usability Test

"Feedback is a free education to excellence. Seek it with sincerity and receive it with grace."

- Ann Marie Houghtailing

I am guilty of having a fixed mindset when it comes to receiving feedback. After having spent weeks and countless hours working on a project, I find it scary to share my project for the purpose of inviting someone to find mistakes or areas that need improvement. It is not something I can change overnight, but I am learning to switch my focus away from the "success or failure" of the final product  and rather to the process of learning and growing. I am a good teacher, and there is ALWAYS room for improvement.

I spent a significant amount of time designing and creating my blended learning course for the Reconstruction Unit. This is a topic that I care very deeply about, and I wanted to instill that passion and importance into the course while also giving students the opportunity to make their own connections with the material. The usability test was a powerful opportunity for me to share my course with stakeholders to determine how well the course actually meets the learning goals and the needs of my students. I gave the test to 3 different people; a 7th grade student, a high school teacher, and a parent. I felt like these individuals could provide feedback from very important perspectives in order to create a more complete assessment of the course. I was able to observe them in person while they navigated the course, and then each individual completed a usability test google form. This feedback has helped me make important changes to my course, and I feel confident that the course is ready to be presented to my actual students. There will be growing pains throughout the course, but I am excited to implement this course and continue to grow from the additional feedback I receive from my students.

I have included links to the google form usability test in addition to the feedback I received from the 3 tester, while the video serves as an overview of the test and a reflection of the process and feedback.
