Growth Learner's Mindset
Growth Mindset
On the left is the infographic I created at the very beginning of the ADL program. I don't believe anything on it is wrong, but by itself, it would only be another poster on the wall or link on a website. The idea of growth mindset has zero effect if the learning environment and the approach to learning are not also changed.
In the Learner's Mindset section below, I discuss my own growth and deeper understanding of how to model and grow a growth mindset in my students.
Learner's Mindset
"Keep trying!"
"Don't give up!"
These are well intentioned phrases of a growth mindset, but are absolutely powerless if they are just talking points at sporadic moments throughout the day. A learner's mindset takes the positive benefits of a growth mindset and builds it within a significant learning environment; An environment where process is emphasized over outcome. An environment where building strong relationships are a priority so that open and honest dialogue can occur and constructive feedback can be well received.
The graphic on the right is a reminder for me and other educators on the crucial elements of building a significant learning environment. It is intended to be used alongside the student growth mindset graphic above.
