Innovation Plan Update
I am in a unique place with my innovation project because I have yet to implement any part of it. I have spent this year away from education but will be back in a middle school teaching 6th grade history for the 22-23 school year. The benefit of this gap year is that I have had time to fully focus and reinvent what my blended learning classroom could look like. I was able to complete each class in the ADL program and add those elements to my future classroom plans. The drawback of this fresh start is that I have not established any working relationships with my coworkers and administration, and it can be intimidating to try something new and make mistakes when no trust has been built with those individuals. I will also be part of a team, which means I will not necessarily have complete control over how I teach the content. With time and communication, I will use what I learned from Organizational Change to not only implement blended learning in my own class but to influence my coworkers to use the approach as well.
I am probably taking on too much given the new subject and school, but I am also seriously considering having each of my students create an ePortfolio. I have grown to love the purpose it adds to assignments, and I think it would compliment any authentic learning projects that the students will be working on. It is an authentic learning project in itself, and I think 6th grade students would really love the choice and voice that comes with an ePortfolio. To best accomplish these blended learning and ePortfolio goals, I will really need to prioritize the BHAG while using the 3 column table. It is easy for me to get lost in the weeds of lesson planning, but to successfully implement blended learning throughout the year in addition to creating student ePortfolios, I will need to clearly define and focus on the BHAG and the supporting learning goals.
